14A- Halfway Reflection

1) Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
I think that one of the most key behaviors for this class is being oriented and efficient. With these two skills I have been able to turn in all of my assignments on time and have learned on how to branch any type of business or service I create to others and learn ho fulfill unmet needs of consumers.
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
A time I actually felt like giving up was for one of my classes called Biomechanics. I realized beforehand that the class was going to be very difficult as it is a mixture between both physics and anatomy, and in the earlier weeks of school I bombed my first quiz. As a result I was stressing that I was already taking 19 credits this semester and figured screw it I don't need this class I am already taking so many other classes as is I should just drop this one. But then I realized something, that there is a reason why I got into Uf and that one quiz does not define me as a person in a class or in the outside word. I realized that instead of beating myself up and looking for excuses I needed to figure out a way to solve my issue instead of running from it. I created a study group and for the next quiz I got a 95% a huge improvement. I feel like I have developed tenacious attitude over the past two months. I would say just growing as a human has contributed to this. Sometimes life can be really shitty but how one handles those experiences i what really makes a person who they are today.
3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
1.) Don't ever doubt yourself. Doubt is the number one confidence killer in the world.
2.) Don't compare yourself to others. You are who you are today for a reason, don't try to emulate someone else that you're not. Being unique is what separates you from others
3.) Always say yes. You only live life once so try to make the most out of any opportunities to come your way. Don't be lazy and get out their in the world.

13A- Reading Reflection

1) You read about an entrepreneur:
  • What surprised you the most?
I think one of the most surprising things actually pertained too Walter Isaacson, the author of the book, who also composed top selling biographies on also Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein. I thought it was very interesting that Steve Jobs selected him as the one who should write this book as he wrote two other elegant biographies on two of the most influential people in the history of the world. Was Steve Jobs trying to go down as equal equivalence of value as those two and hoped to achieve that through this author?
  • What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
The most admirable trait that Jobs reflected was his determination to be the best out of any other competitors. To start, just with the name Apple for his company, he choose just a said name just so that his company Apple would be ahead of Atari, which was is old job, in the phonebooks. Also, Steve Jobs never gave up his dream of making it. He was a troublemaker in school and did not care all too much for it. Because of this he dropped out and never finished but that didn't stop him. He put his head down and grinded his way up through multiple jobs till he finally made it to where he is today.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
One of the things I actually found least desirable of Jobs was what lead to his most desirable traits and to me Job's least admirable thing he did was not finish up college at Reed and instead choose to drop out. He did so not because school was to hard for him but because he was basically a "hippie" and was experimenting with different sort of substances and choose to do that instead of attending classes.

Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Jobs faced adversity all throughout his life. Starting when he was young he was adopted by a family, to a point where he started to invent things like "Blue Box" and was robbed at gunpoint, too looking for a wealthy sponsor to help him create the Apple I. Jobs whole life he had to face adversity in order to reach his goals. But he looked at adversity with a positive attitude and never lost faith in himself. He knew that bigger and better was meant for him and realized that if he put forth the hard work and effort he would be able to overcome these obstacles and do great things.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
Jobs exhibited being a hard-worker, an innovator, communicator, leader, great at creating long-time lasting relationship and amazing at creating a business scheme for his fellow workers to follow.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
One of the odd parts of the reading for myself was Job's relationship with Christann Brennan. They dated for a few years but were very on and off and the whole thing about Jobs denying that the kid she was pregnant with or not was very confusing. I was just more confused with why Jobs was denying the idea that the kid was his for such a long time.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
1.) What in your life would you say was the defying moment that made who you are today?
2.) Who was your role model throughout life?
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I feel that job's opinion of hard work was to not half ass any assignment given to someone and to accomplish said assignment as efficiently as possible. Jobs exemplified this idea time and time again. I feel that I do share this opinion because when I am ever given a task I always try my best with said assignment and put forth all my effort to complete it.

12A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

1) Pick a segment.
The segment I have to choose for this assignment was the people who love to read and also segment people who travel on a two month basis.
2) Interview.
The first person I choose to interview was a 19 year old male freshmen who said he reads a book every other week and travels monthly back to his hometown in Hoboken, New Jersey. He said that when he travels he always brings with him a good book and when I suggested my service to him he actually loved the idea because he mentioned how his books he brings take up much unwanted space. The second person I interviewed was a 23 year old female who travels weekly across florida writing articles on events. She usually travels through airlines and complained to me how her most recent flight got delayed for 4 hours. I then told her my idea and she really liked the magazine part of my idea and said it would be a great way to past time quickly. My third interview I had was with a 21 year old male who said he reads a book every two days and travels for the holidays. He told me reading is his passion and when I told him about my idea he said he would love it but feared he wouldn't have enough time to finish a long lengthy novel.
3) What I learned.
After interviewing these three people I have learned that some people definitely are within my need group and there are some who do not fill within my need group. The people I interviewed all seemed to love the idea and told me how much they could see other people enjoying it. Some people prefer a simple way of passing time by reading while others have other means of doing so. But everyone I've interviewed who enjoys reading said this would be an amazing idea.
4) Describing the Segment.
I think that a segment that includes people who have a passion to read and enjoy reading is a specific segment and people who travel and would use reading books as a substitute for passing time while traveling is very specific. If people prefer other means to pass time while traveling do not fit within this segment.

11A - Idea Napkin #1

1) You.
I am Daniel Plattner. I am a Junior majoring in APK and minoring in business. I am a very outgoing and determined person. When I pt my mind to something I do not stop till I achieve what I am aiming for. I specifically find a passion for business and I aspire to be my own boss eventually one day. I also have a passion for reading books. These were two key aspects that helped mold the idea of "Books-to-Go". Opening up this business would allow myself and many others a great, simple and  efficient way to past time by reading books/magazines. It would impact my life greatly I feel.
2) What are you offering to customers?
The service and product I would be providing would be gibing people and easy, simple and efficient way to past time by reading books. Much of the youth generation relies of technology to help past the time but what happens when you cant use your technology and need something to do. "Books-to-Go" will use a service very similar to Redbox and will be scattering across airports, bus stops and any convenient place to rent and drop off a book while traveling.
3) Who are you offering it to?
The typical customer would be a person who travels often and finds a love for reading. The demographic would more or less be for the older generations who don't rely on technology and such to past time and would prefer to read a good book to past time. The system will be implemented in places where traveling such as air, bus or train travel and gives people who want to past the time a way to do so.
4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.
The main reason why customers would care is because it is a unique but old fashioned way to expand your knowledge on subjects while enjoying yourself by reading. While reading, for people who enjoy it, time flies by and this service will make travel time fly quicker than one could blink.
5) What are your core competencies?
This idea is completely revolutionary when it comes to traveling. By using a similar like service of Redbox it gives travelers the ultimate chance to enjoy a good book/magazine while traveling. It is very unique and the only other service that even mirrors anything like this idea would be the kindle fire but most of the older generation doesn't possess this device and many people who don't have the device still like to read.

I feel like all the elements of my business work really well together. I composed things that I enjoy to deal with things that I disliked and that other people disliked. The only concept hurting against my business would be the space of creating all these dispensary stations and people who have other methods to past time.

9A Testing the Hypothesis Part 2 - Daniel Plattner

WHO: After conducting my second set of interviews, I have come to realize that there are people who do not fall within my target market. Those people are the people who have Kindle fires, people who do not have the want to read to past air travel time, and those who do not prefer reading in general
Interview 1: The first person I interviewed was a woman in her 40s who has been dealing with airline travels for years now. She has a Kindle fire and she relies on this device heavily for the use of reading for herself on her own time. Because she has this device she would basically have no need to need to access "Books-to-Go" because she basically has all the benefits of this at the point of her fingertips. The only issue for her depends on WiFi and being able to download books.
Interview 2: The second person I interviewed was in his early 20s and he dealt with airline travel every 3-4 months or so. He told me the only thing he does to past the time while waiting for his planes and all of that was listening to music. It's a time for peace and recovery he said. Being that this is his main way to past the time a person like this would have no interest in my target market.
Interview 3: The third person I interviewed was someone who has never flown before. This person would fall outside my target market because they aren't even in the airport in general to rent the books from the store.
Interview 4: The fourth person I interviewed was a older lady around 60. She said she did her fair share of airline raveling throughout the years and thought she the idea of creating a book reading system was a great idea. However, she told me often times she would make flights that lasted longer than 45 minutes and this would not provide ample time for her to read a good story that she would like in depth. Because of this it proves that ample time would be needed to provide satisfaction to customers.
Interview 5: The last person I interviewed was a man in his late-twenties, he has only flown under two hand full of times in his life. He said he loved to read but often times could not reading while moving, so it could prove difficult for him to read a book or magazine while flying on the airplane itself. Because of this people who deal with motion sickness while reading could also be potentially out of the market range.
WHAT: The fifth interviewee also had a good observation. He explained that anyone who has been to a ski resort knows that it is an expensive trip. Snowboard and skiing gear, lift tickets, food, and lodging are all very pricey at ski resorts. People who come up with their pets can afford to have them boarded for a day and taken care of.
WHY: I believe that the outsiders' need is different than the insiders' need. The outsiders most of the time do not have this problem. The need I am addressing is for a large, but specific group of people who bring their dogs or pets with them to ski resorts.

Inside the Boundary Outside the Boundary
Who:

People who want to read a book while dealing with airline travel to help past the time.
People who prefer reading and don't have a means of doing so

People who do not like to read
People who have Kindle fires
People who have other means to past the time during airline travel.

What:
To help past the time when dealing with ridiculous airline travel and being able to enjoy yourself while doing so
If someone has a Kindle or does not have a need to read

Why:
People are always looking for a practical and efficient way to past the time while dealing with airline travel and reading a book or magazine could be the perfect way
People love to read in general so proving books and other reading sources for them that they haven't read before could be very beneficial
Delays and other things could cause one's airline trip to last even longer than needed and a good book could be the difference between being miserable an enjoying passing the time.
