So my opportunity I came across was creating "Books-to-Go" which would basically be a Redbox type system but instead of movies there would be books and magazines. This "Books-to-Go" was first thought of to help pass the time during airline travel as I would create numerous shops within multiple airlines across the nation that would hold plentiful books and magazines. These books and magazines would serve the purpose of reading while either on a flight or waiting for one's flight. A great and sufficient way to pass time.
After conducting all of my interviews the two biggest problems that popped up was 1.) having a large enough supply of books/magazines to appease the optimal customer. To solve this issue I would have to first obtain a fairly large amount of space within the airport to hold such many books/magazines. Then once said space is obtained I would research the top selling books/magazines of different genres and only have those one's up for renting. But to ensure satisfaction of customers who ask for a book or magazine that I do not have I would ask them to write down the name of the book and I would potentially obtain that book for future usage. The second issue that arises was the return policy of the book. Most people when they read, will read sections of a book at a time and then take a break. Because of this many people would need to hold onto their books/magazines for a fair amount of time because how far can you really get into a book when waiting to takeoff for a flight or while flying. I was thinking the best way to satisfy that needs would to be create book drop offs within major towns and cities that could be a place for people to deliver the books once they finish instead of the airport. Then we could hire drivers to go around a collect all the books dropped off at these off-store locations

7A- Testing the Hypothesis Daniel Plattner
The opportunity that I have chosen to explore is basically the idea of creating a "Redbox" type system that would be located inside an airport, but instead of using movies, they would be substituted with only books and would follow all the same parameters that "Redbox" uses for movies. Everyone knows that airline traveling can be one of the most annoying processes of getting from one point to another, but with the "Books-to-Go" (potential name of my idea) airline customers could pass their time fairly easily.
*All of my interviews were with random people except the last one with Andrew, who is my friend*
Interview 1: Senior at the University of Florida, David Spreen, 23 years old
"So David what is your preferred method of travel if lets say you had to go from Gainesville to New York?"
I mean i guess the quickest way possible, so I would have to say flying.
"Yeah exactly. Have you ever had any problems before flying or any of that?"
Sometimes its smooth traveling and all my flights get in on time and the process is relatively quick, but there was one time I was in an airport for 12 hours because of layovers and that was absolutely terrible"
"That is rough, what did you do to past the time?"
Well at first I caught up on a homework assignment I had but then my laptop died and the airport Wifi is terrible so after that i just closed my eyes and was bored out of my mind for hours"
"Do you read often"
Not as much as I would like too but I do enjoy reading a good book whenever I have the opportunity to get too
"Do you know what Redbox is"
Ya, I love Redbox. I never go to theaters anymore and if I ever want to watch a movie I always just go to a Redbox
"What if I told you that I'm thinking of creating a "Redbox" type system but instead of movies there would be books, at airports"
That would be pretty awesome. I know there are so many people who love to read, thats actually a really good idea! Definitely could be a great way to past time
Do you see any potential issues with it?
The only real problem I can see from that is 1.) I could often times see people walking away with the books and 2.) Books are pretty big so you will need quite a large sector in airports to hold multiple genre's of books.
I talked to David, in Turlington Plaza, about the idea of "Books-to-Go" and I learned quite a bit from his talk. It seems to me that reading a book would infact be a sufficent way to past time in airports and air travel but there are factors that I did not think about when it came to how fluent the system would work.
Interview 2: Jasmine Dhalby, 23 , Senior at UF
"So Jasmine what would be your ideal way to get from Gainesville to California?"
My ideal way would 100% be flying, I fly all the time and it is definitely the best way to travel
"Oh you fly often, nice. Have you ever had any problems before flying or any of that?"
It really is all a coin flip when it comes to airline travel, sometimes it is a very quick process and other times you can get screwed over by layovers and all of that
"I see what you mean. When layovers and all that do happen what do you do to past the time?"
Well if i don't have anyone to talk too and I'm all caught up on school I'll either read a book or listen to music
"Do you read often"
Yes almost everyday if I can
"Do you know what Redbox is"
Yes, my parents back home always would get a bundle of like 4 Redbox movies at a time. Its a great deal.
"What if I told you that I'm thinking of creating a "Redbox" type system but instead of movies there would be books, at airports"
That would be amazing! I wouldn't have to bring my own books from home or anything, I would love if that was real.
Do you see any potential issues with it?
The biggest one I could see would be having a large enough area to where you could hold and distribute all the books within the airport.
After talking with Jasmine it seems that this idea would be very popular within the reading community and that if I could figure out all the kinks it could turn into a great idea.
Interview 3: Jessica Shiffner, 20, Junior at UF
"So Jessica what would be your ideal way of traveling from Gainesville to California?
Well actually I am scared of heights and planes so I try to avoid them at all costs so for me perosnally I would say driving.
" Have you ever flown before?"
I have flown before, but only twice. and both times was when I was fairly young
"Oh wow. So what do you do in your spare time to pass the time"
Either homework, hangout with friends, or read
"Do you read often"
Yeah I would say I finish a book on average about once a month
"Do you know what Redbox is"
YES. I have two Redbox movies I need to return later today actually. I love Redbox!
"What if I told you that I'm thinking of creating a "Redbox" type system but instead of movies there would be books, at airports"
I mean thats nice and all but like I said I'm never really at airports so myself personally wouldn't benefit that much from this.
After talking with Jessica two issues with my idea popped up into my head. The first was that only limiting "Books-to-Go" to an airport can severely cut my target audience by a lot and secondly many people, like Jessica, takes multiple days to finish up a book so I would have to figure out a deadline policy of how long people can have books out for.
Interview #4: Matt Mooney, 20, Junior at UF
"So Matt what would be your optimal approach from getting from Gainesville to New Jersey"
Well actually I make this trip quite often because that is where I am from and my parents live, and every time I have ever made the trip I have flown.
"Have you ever had any problems before flying or any of that?"
I have had some of the worst delays of my life flying out of Newark Airport, it can be terrible sometimes.
"That's rough, what did you do to past the time?"
To pass the time I just listened to music and play games on my phone
"Oh nice, do you read often"
ITs going to be bad to say but I haven't actually read a book in over 2 years.
"Do you know what Redbox is"
yeah thats the movie box thing where you can get movies for cheap and have them for a day or two
"What if I told you that I'm thinking of creating a "Redbox" type system but instead of movies there would be books, at airports"
That would be cool I guess. I'm not quite sure I would be using that unless you had sports genre magazines or short stories.
After talking with Matt it was made apparent that I need to have multiple genres of different books to appease multiple audiences. Also he mentioned magazines and those wouldn't be bad to include as well in the system.
Interview #5: Andrew Mills, 19, Santa Fe student
"Andrew if you had to get from Gainesville to Texas what would be your choice of route"
Easy flying would get me there the quickest.
"Have you ever flown before and if so have you ever had any problems before flying or any of that?"
I usually fly about once or twice a year to visit family and usually it's all good. But there has been a time or two where are flights have been so delayed we had to sleep in the airport overnight.
"That is rough, what did you do to past the time?"
Played on my phone till my battery died and then waited like a mad person.
"Do you read often"
Yeah every once in awhile I like to read a good book
"Do you know what Redbox is"
Redbox is a move! cheapest and easiest way to watch some of the newest movies out.
"What if I told you that I'm thinking of creating a "Redbox" type system but instead of movies there would be books, at airports"
That would be pretty cool actually, I probably would end up using that. I know my mom would for sure.
Do you see any potential issues with it?
Well i'm a slow reader so it would take me sometime to actually finish the book, so an issue I could see is the return policy you create for it.
After speaking with Andrew it became apparent that I need to figure out some sort of return policy for the books to give the readers adequate time to actually read the book.
*All of my interviews were with random people except the last one with Andrew, who is my friend*

Daniel Plattner 6A- Identifying Opportunities
Regulatory Changes:
1.) The first opportunity I came across what actually something I first heard about from my professor and then I researched it more in the gator sun. The first regulatory change I came across was Gainesville county raising the tobacco buying age to 21. This made Gainesville one of the first counties in the state of Florida to pass such a law. This leads me to believe that after this law is in effect there is an unmet needs for tobacco users under the age of 21 to be looking for a new way to get their hands on tobacco products. This wont be effecting any customers over the age of 21 but will definitely effect the younger crowd that relies on tobacco. This would be a relatively difficult unmet need to exploit, however the law doesn't penalize 18 year olds for smoking tobacco only makes it more difficult for them to acquire it.
I came across this as an opportunity for myself because back when I was younger I use to vape and I would go to a local smoke shop and be able to purchase everything legally at 18, but now with this new law an 18 year old won't be able to do that any longer. So just being I've had a personal experience with this back in the day I can relate.
Link: https://www.gainesville.com/news/20190122/county-raises-tobacco-buying-age-to-212.)
2.) The next regulatory change that lead to an opportunity was sports betting. This has been a growing business since the first day it started and it hasn't looked back. Some states allow for sport betting and others don't. This has been a growing issue as everyone believes that they should be allowed to make sport bets within their respected state. FanDuel, DraftKings, MyBookie and so many more of these websites permit the use of sports betting. I believe there is an opportunity here because the people within states that allow it prosper and love the game and those who live in states where they can't bet legally have to find either loopholes and illegally gamble or not gamble at all. The prototypical customer would be anyone wanting to make sports bet and has a need to want to make risky bets. This opportunity is relatively hard to exploit in states where sport betting is still illegal as doing the act is technically against the law in those states and could lead to harsh punishments.
I believe an opportunity exist here because when I was a little younger I use to always make football FanDuel lineups with my dad. I know how nerve racking but invigorating this activity can be and have a personal experience of it.
Economic Trends:
1.) The first economic trend opportunity I found involves the Oak Mall. Within the mall there is thousands of people passing through it everyday. Knowing this companies has invested their time and started to focus more on adding into the mall. The mall now is expecting a few new shops to open up within it. Some of these stores include a new music shop and clothing shop. I believe an opportunity exist here because the mall is already very popular as is and the addition of new shops can help generate more customers and more revenue for the mall all together and the new start up companies starting in the mall. The prototypical customer is any person who comes into the mall with the intent to buy new items from the stores, so most likely a more family oriented customer looking to shop in numerous shops. This opportunity is relatively easy to exploit because it is already in a very crowded area so it has high potential to be successful.
I can relate to this personally because I've gone to the Oaks Mall before and have shopped their before. I can see how it is growing business and can lead to many successful opportunities for new stores starting up in there.
2.) The second economic opportunity I found involves gas prices. I actually came across this news from the last assignment we had to do. But basically gas was in a downward decline in price not all too long ago but over the past weeks it has been rising and rising and it is expected to continue to a rise and then steady out. But sooner or later we will come across the transition into summer gasoline where prices sky rocket and reach an all time high for the year. This increase in gas price is going to lead to unmet needs of people who are tight on money and can't keep up with the funds needed to pay gas and all the other necessities, which is why I believe and opportunity exist. I believe the customer range is basically anyone who relies on gas as a mean of traveling. This unmet need is very hard to exploit because there is very little we can do to make a change and effect gas prices.
I figured this was an opportunity because when I had my first job I had to buy my own car and once I purchased my first car the gas price was insanely low so funds and all that were consistent and I had some surplus, but once I experienced my first summer gasoline I realized how much the raise in gas price can effect one's economic decisions.

Article # 1: "Veterans look to Congress for legal cannabis | Democratic majority in House appears ready to move on federal marijuana legalization"
-Link: https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASHTB%21Sarasota%2BHerald-Tribune%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0121%21January%2B21&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/17118EFF291F4478
This whole article is about the laws enforced by the federal system on cannabis products. The article focuses on the ongoing debate on whether or not cannabis laws need to be reformed and changed for the greater good. Some people in this article would agree and some would say there is absolutely no chance of this ever happening. The Court is suppose to make a decision within the year and hopes are high that a change will be coming.
The main problem of this story is that there are war veterans and many other people alike who want a change to the " federal marijuana laws that are outdated". The House according too Earl Blumenauer, who introduced the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, is the strongest ever in regards to cannabis reform. The main piece of evidence brought up to help their case is wounded veterans who would look for cannabis products as a way for medicine. However, there are still people with the Court and House that don't feel a change is needed for these laws and the stand still continues.
The people who have the problem from this article are all the wounded veterans that being able to receive the treatment they feel is best for themselves as long as all the people who use cannabis for medical substitutes but is being denied that right. These are people willing to use cannabis for all the right reasons but are being denied so because of the disagreement between politics.

This article is about the changing gas prices in specifically Southwest Florida and how the gas prices are at highs on average compared to the same time last year. Gas prices are going to be on the rise because it is about to be the transition into the summer gasoline.
The problem presented within this article is that gas prices are raising slowly over the past few weeks and could see an even larger increase in price within the next few months leading into summer gasoline. This increase in price presents a problem basically to everyone who buys gas and uses it for their vehicles. More expensive gas means more money spent by the customers and more moeny spent on gas means less money to spend on other necessities.

This article is about Shirley A. Ritchey who is the creator of Education Foundation. Education Foundation is an organization who's main goal is to help enhance the potential of students and promote good teaching. The organization has a main goal of raising 1 million dollars and are currently sitting at $200,000 so far. This organization is proving to be very effective in assisting students advance their educational career.
The main problem that occurs within this article is the need to help reach their ultimate goal of 1 millions dollars. They currently have already raised 200 grand but more that 40% of that have come from two donors. They need to spread their name out too receive more donations for more people. The people this effects the most are obviously the people within the organization that want to reach their donation goal but it more effects the students who could be potentially receiving all these extra funds that could be used to further advance their education.
Article #4: "FWC: Red tide wanes in Sarasota County"

This article is about the red tide epidemic that took over Sarasota county beaches and how Sarasota is still being effected months later. The toxic algae, Karenia brevis, is the toxin that causes respiratory issues and kills all sorts of marine life it effects. This red tide prevented the natives of the areas, tourist, and basically all living organisms to avoid the beaches for a good period of time. In total Sarasota County beaches have been dealing with the red tide issue for more than 16 months.
The main problem within this article is that their is still traces of red tide within Sarasota county beaches and along the whole west coast of Florida. This red tide is very detrimental to tourism and marine life. The two main groups that deal with this issue is first, the actual marine life of the ecosystem. Tens of thousands of marine animals have washed up on the beach because of all of this and this has drastically effected the marine population within the area. Secondly, the people living in the surrounding area deal with the issue because this resurgence of red tide can lead to respiratory issues.

This article is about senator Joe Gruters taking a new approach to try and form a bill for the LBBTQ community. He has really wanted to pass this bill for awhile now and has constituted his own bill he feels is the most fair for both sides. It grants rights for the LGBTQ community to be exempt from being fired from a job because of their association with their group. However, he has received criticism from the LGBTQ because his bill only involves workforce discrimination and nothing else.
The problem presented in this story is that the LGBTQ community does not feel they are receiving equal and fair treatment in the workforce and other settings. The year is 2019 now so a change will be coming fairly shortly but as of now the issues are still to be at a stand still at the moment. The people this effects the most is the LGBTQ community and all the members who are being denied rights to work or are being oppressed just because of their affiliation with this group.

Link: https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASHTB%21Sarasota%2BHerald-Tribune%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0124%21January%2B24&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/17128AD21CA8B350
Article # 5: "Gruters’ LGBTQ bill faces criticism | Senator says scaled back measure could pass, but some say it doesn’t do enough"
Link: https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASHTB%21Sarasota%2BHerald-Tribune%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0125%21January%2B25&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/1712E01D3442D478

4A Forming an Opportunity Daniel Plattner
I believe there is an unmet need in regards golf and in tracking golf shots. Basically what I would use is the same technology that Top Tracer uses and integrate that into a pair of sunglasses and sensors on the clubs. This is the same technology that Top Golf uses where they have a chip inside the golf ball that tracks it to wherever it is hit. If we could use the same chip in balls and sell them with the sunglasses that can track the ball a person of any age could easily play golf and never lose a ball and not have to spend time searching and hunting for the ball. One of the main reasons that Top Golf is so successful is because of this unique way of being able to track ones ball and if the same idea of tracking the ball could be made so everyday golfers could track their own balls on any course that they choose it would be monumental for the actual game. I feel this unmet need could create a way for all golfers of all skill levels to not only improve their game but become more efficient at it. I would say there is about a 60% this opportunity exists.
Interview #1 - Male, 23 years old, 14 years of golf experience
Have you ever played golf before?
- yes I have been playing golf ever since I was 9 years old
What are your favorite and worst moment when playing golf?
-Easily my favorite part of golf is when I absolutely crush my driver shot and the worst is when you're having a bad day all around. Shanking shots left and right, losing balls, and just making poor contact those are easily the worst
Have you ever heard about or played at Top Golf before?
-Yes, I've gone numerous times.
What was one of your favorite things about playing at Top Golf?
- I love the unique games that you can play and the tracking system they have.
How often would you say you golf a month?
-probably around two to three times a month
When you play do you lose balls often?
-Haha I lose at least 5 balls every time I play
How would you feel if there was a way to prevent losing your ball ever agin? (well besides if you hit it in the water)
-That would be amazing, one of biggest nuisances of golfing for myself when I play alone is trying to hunt down my ball all the time. Sometimes when I'm feeling hot that can really kill my vibe.
Interview #1 - Male, 20 years old, 3 years golf experience
Have you ever played golf before?
- Yeah I actually just picked it up not too long ago, around the end of my junior year of high school
What are your favorite and worst moment when playing golf?
-I just am happy if I hit the ball consistently throughout the day, but when I'm off I am terrible. I have balls flying all over the place
Have you ever heard about or played at Top Golf before?
-My first time ever actually swinging a golf club and hitting a ball was at Top Golf
What was one of your favorite things about playing at Top Golf?
- Being able to hit all those balls and not have to go pick up after them
How often would you say you golf a month?
-Maybe on a good month once I would say
When you play do you lose balls often?
- 8-10 and thats on a good day
How would you feel if there was a way to prevent losing your ball ever agin? (well besides if you hit it in the water)
- Sounds almost impossible, I hit some shots way off the playing course so tracking it could be impossible I feel like.
Interview #1 - Female, 21 years old, 0 years of golf experience
Have you ever played golf before?
- not an actual game but i've swung a golf club before
What are your favorite and worst moment when playing golf?
-I don't play it enough to even have feelings for it
Have you ever heard about or played at Top Golf before?
-once, i went with a group of my friends
What was one of your favorite things about playing at Top Golf?
- well if the ball went more than 20 feet I could get points in one of the game modes they had
How often would you say you golf a month?
- 0
When you play do you lose balls often?
- dont play
How would you feel if there was a way to prevent losing your ball ever agin? (well besides if you hit it in the water)
- I mean I guess that would be cool, but I could seeing that being nice.
REFLECTION
After interviewing these 3 people it has become apparent to me that the only market who would even be interested in this opportunity is the golfer community. The people who actually play a lot were getting excited when I brought up my idea and were really interested in the idea.
SUMMARY
I still believe that there is a a need for this opportunity, however the initial market I thought I was working with seems to be a lot smaller than I first imagined. When interviewing ended I realized that the golf community would be the only group interested and sounded more or less that only the advanced golfers would be able to utilize this device to the fullest. So based off my feedback I feel that some of my values for the product are good but overall needs more work to be done. For entrepreneurs the customer is always right and one should adapt to new methods and beliefs that would better their product but I believe that staying firm in aspects that you truly believe are right is the best decision.

3A Entrepreneurship Story, Daniel Plattner
The most recent story I have involving being an entrepreneur was actually within the past 3 months and it involved all my roommates and myself. So we had a dilemma in our living room where we had two 50'' televisions stacked on top of each other in our living room taking up a great deal of space. My roommates and I wanted to get rid of the TVs and gain space so we all brainstormed ideas of what to do. Finally it hit me that we could set up a projector and make a screen as big as our whole wall. First we called waste management to come and pick up both TVs and then we went online and purchased a projector and then I took measurements of the wall and got an estimate of how much black-out screen cloth we would need and went to a store to purchase that. Once we had the cloth we hung it up and nailed it into our wall and now we have a 100'' projector screen set up in our living room. Very excited to watch the Superbowl this year with it!
I enrolled into this class for two reasons. The first being that it is a required class to help with my minor in business and also more importantly I want to develop the skills and abilities to become a great entrepreneur. My ultimate goal in life is to become my own boss and I feel that all great entrepreneurs one way or another end up becoming their own boss.

2A Daniel Plattner Bug List
20 things that "bug" me
1. People who chew with their mouth open.
-Some people are just unaware of them doing this, so it just happens sometimes.
2.When the top of the ketchup bottle is covered in old ketchup
-Sometimes people forget to check to see if they left any leftovers on top.
3. When I'm telling an interesting story thats happened in my life and someone else jumps to the conclusion and finishes the story for me.
-People are also excited to tell the story so they try and feel included
4. While im studying at the Marston Library on the 4th or 5th floor and people sit next to me and start to shake the whole desk.
-People are nervous studying and are shaking because of that.
5. Scooter parking anywhere on campus from 930am-145pm is absolutely ridiculous and is very hard to find spots.
-I am not the only student on the campus with a scooter and this is the busiest time on campus .
6. When I hold the door open for someone and they don't say "thank you"
-People sometimes are just so focused on getting somewhere they forget too or maybe they are to shy to talk to a stranger.
7. When I cook food for people and they play no role in helping me cook or cleanup.
- Sometimes people are busy with other task and need to focus on their assignment.
8. Whenever my dad calls me and i miss his first call and I call back immediately and I don't hear from him for another 2 hours.
-My dad is a busy man and wasn't paying attention to his phone after he made the first initial call.
9. My scooter broke down the other month and I didn't have it for 3 weeks.
-I didn't bring in my scooter for awhile and because of that i was unaware of how bad shape my spark plugs were in that ultimately led to my scooter breaking down.
10. When I go to Chipotle and I ask for a bag of chips and they forget to include the bag of chips.
- Either they didn't hear me or they could have just forgot. But this is also equally my fault because all I needed to do to prevent this was to check my order.
11. When my roommates don't clean their dirty dishes.
- We all are on tight time budgets so sometimes they will just give it a quick clean and leave some plates and bowls dirty.
12. People taking my stuff without asking.
-Some people will just take my clothes, borrow money, or some food without asking me because I always will still say yes to them, so maybe they are under the impression that since I always say yes they don't feel the need to ask as much anymore.
13. When I'm cooking food and end up burning or ruining my food.
- Most of the time I think I am Gordon Ramsey but in reality I'm just a normal college student. I sometimes will not check directions on how long or how hot to cook something and because of this I ruin it.
14. When people are driving on the highway and have their blinker on and don't realize it, makes me feel indecisive and scared when trying to pass a car with that going on.
-A big portion of people that do this are just unaware that they are doing this.
15. When people smoke cigs inside a building or in a car.
-People sometimes rely on nicotine to calm themselves and need the break.
16. Chick-Fil-A being closed on Sundays'.
-They have off to give their workers a day to rest and worship.
17. When people who have dogs are walking them and fail to clean up after them.
- It may be because they failed to bring a waste bag and have no way to clean up after their dog
18. When people who are on campus walk as slow as a turtle in front of you.
-Some people may not be in as much as a rush as myself and go at their own pace when passing through campus.
19. People who cheer for the Patriots.
-Most Patriot fans are just like them because they have always been good, but some actually originate from Boston or from the area and have a reason to cheer for them.
20. People who snore obnoxiously loud at night.
-These people can't control it because it happens to all of us, but its still super annoying especially when I'm trying to get some good sleep.
This assignment overall was quite difficult to complete in one sitting and took me a few days to complete. It was very difficult to go off from memory what was bothering me, but after a few days of sitting and experiencing stuff that bothered me the assignment got fairly easier. This task is almost impossible to do in one sitting but over time it gets easier.
