12A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

1) Pick a segment.
The segment I have to choose for this assignment was the people who love to read and also segment people who travel on a two month basis.
2) Interview.
The first person I choose to interview was a 19 year old male freshmen who said he reads a book every other week and travels monthly back to his hometown in Hoboken, New Jersey. He said that when he travels he always brings with him a good book and when I suggested my service to him he actually loved the idea because he mentioned how his books he brings take up much unwanted space. The second person I interviewed was a 23 year old female who travels weekly across florida writing articles on events. She usually travels through airlines and complained to me how her most recent flight got delayed for 4 hours. I then told her my idea and she really liked the magazine part of my idea and said it would be a great way to past time quickly. My third interview I had was with a 21 year old male who said he reads a book every two days and travels for the holidays. He told me reading is his passion and when I told him about my idea he said he would love it but feared he wouldn't have enough time to finish a long lengthy novel.
3) What I learned.
After interviewing these three people I have learned that some people definitely are within my need group and there are some who do not fill within my need group. The people I interviewed all seemed to love the idea and told me how much they could see other people enjoying it. Some people prefer a simple way of passing time by reading while others have other means of doing so. But everyone I've interviewed who enjoys reading said this would be an amazing idea.
4) Describing the Segment.
I think that a segment that includes people who have a passion to read and enjoy reading is a specific segment and people who travel and would use reading books as a substitute for passing time while traveling is very specific. If people prefer other means to pass time while traveling do not fit within this segment.

  1. Hey Daniel! As a frequent traveler, I love the idea of your business because I often find myself carrying around 1-2 big books on a trip and it's so frustrating because it takes up so much room in my luggage that I can use for other things! I think it would also be interesting to see what kind of books others are reading based off of the selection. I think this has potential to be a really great business venture!

  2. Hey Daniel, I really like this idea. I love to read, and it can get expensive to buy books all the time, especially just for a flight or something like that. I like this idea because of the convenience over checking out from a library and the cost-effectiveness over book shopping at overpriced stores like Barnes and Noble.
