The House according too Earl Blumenauer, who introduced the Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act, is the strongest ever in regards to cannabis reform. However, there are still people with the Court and House that don't feel a change is needed for these laws and the stand still continues.
The people who have the problem from this article are all the wounded veterans that being able to receive the treatment they feel is best for themselves as long as all the people who use cannabis for medical substitutes but is being denied that right. This article is about the red tide epidemic that took over Sarasota county beaches and how Sarasota is still being effected months later. The toxic algae, Karenia brevis, is the toxin that causes respiratory issues and kills all sorts of marine life it effects. This red tide prevented the natives of the areas, tourist, and basically all living organisms to avoid the beaches for a good period of time. In total Sarasota County beaches have been dealing with the red tide issue for more than 16 months.
The main problem within this article is that their is still traces of red tide within Sarasota county beaches and along the whole west coast of Florida. This red tide is very detrimental to tourism and marine life. The two main groups that deal with this issue is first, the actual marine life of the ecosystem. Tens of thousands of marine animals have washed up on the beach because of all of this and this has drastically effected the marine population within the area. Secondly, the people living in the surrounding area deal with the issue because this resurgence of red tide can lead to respiratory issues.
Article # 5: "Gruters’ LGBTQ bill faces criticism | Senator says scaled back measure could pass, but some say it doesn’t do enough"
Link: https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASHTB%21Sarasota%2BHerald-Tribune%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0125%21January%2B25&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/1712E01D3442D478
This article is about senator Joe Gruters taking a new approach to try and form a bill for the LBBTQ community. He has really wanted to pass this bill for awhile now and has constituted his own bill he feels is the most fair for both sides. It grants rights for the LGBTQ community to be exempt from being fired from a job because of their association with their group. However, he has received criticism from the LGBTQ because his bill only involves workforce discrimination and nothing else.
The problem presented in this story is that the LGBTQ community does not feel they are receiving equal and fair treatment in the workforce and other settings. The year is 2019 now so a change will be coming fairly shortly but as of now the issues are still to be at a stand still at the moment. The people this effects the most is the LGBTQ community and all the members who are being denied rights to work or are being oppressed just because of their affiliation with this group.
Your post portion about the LGBTQ community bill was a good look at the changes that are finally taking place. It does take time, I’m happy that things are moving in the right direction (in some areas at least like this bill). I think it’s unfortunately a slow process to work through the old mindsets that are stubborn.
ReplyDeleteI’m a woman in the workforce who has received several discriminations throughout my working career so far and it still happens. The new one is my age. My manager is older than I am, yet, he always mentions “our” old ages and how everything is blamed on old age. I’m planning to leave this company in about a year, and this really bugs me about working here. On an older job position, that owner of the company made inappropriate advances towards me, plus there was lower wages than men.
Hi Daniel! Bridging off of the rising gas prices discussion, I don't think we have much to worry about. Yes, gas prices rise over the summer, but they also rise around the fall and winter holidays as well. Gas companies know that more people will be traveling and therefore will need more gas. Without a cheaper option people will have to pay their prices. The same thing happens every year, I do not foresee this year being too much out of the ordinary.
